Family Session FAQ:

What should we expect during our session? Expect a really chill session. Or that’s what we can hope for right? I will help guide you and your family to some relaxed poses and some verbal cues to get the most authentic smiles from everybody. Typically more posed looks will happen first and then we will ease into more unstyled, candid looks. My favorite! My best compliments are when clients remark how easy their session felt.

After your session: Depending on your package, after your session I will cull and hand edit your images into a gorgeous private gallery within 2 weeks of your session. Need your photos sooner? I offer express edits for an additional small fee. You will also have the option of making a selection from your gallery shop including 200 year archival quality prints, professionally framed photographs, gorgeous linen bound albums and hand soldered ornaments.

Do you Photoshop? I will remove blemishes, boogies, fuzz on shirts and lightly smooth skin texture. Please note any additional edits will require a supplemental fee. * Please remind your husbands to take their phones out of their pockets before the shoot and I will probably voluntarily remove any Under Armor or NIKE logos. Sorry not sorry.

How much does a session cost? I am happy to offer a variety of session options. Typically I offer a seasonal ‘mini session’ or a private full hour session. I believe that professional photography sessions are a luxury and an important investment. Please feel free to reach out to me for more pricing information kate@katephotographs.com

What should we wear? I love this question and I am happy to help you! Often times the best looks are from things your family already has in their closets. I love a good neutral, creams, beiges with texture, denim. Feel free to send me pics of what you are thinking, I am always here to help. Check out my Pinterest page here for some ideas.

How would you describe your style as a photographer? Clean lines, minimal, natural, unposed, relaxed are some of my ways to describe my work.

Any tips for our session? If possible, please moisturize your children’s face, around their nose before your session to lessen the boogies. If you have young children, now is the time to bring out all the tricks. Talks of a little special treat for after the photos usually work. But the best advice is to try and relax. Having very high expectations for your photos and the way your family looks is just not fun for anyone. Children read our energy so trying to have fun is the best ticket. This is one special moment in time and having these photos to cherish until the end of time really is what it’s all about.

Heirloom FAQ:

What exactly are Heirloom Portraits?

A classical photographic style traditionally seen in the South. These beautiful and timeless pieces of art can be treasured and passed down for generations. My heirloom portraits are hand-edited in B&W and color with soft classic vignetting.

What are the best ages for children’s heirloom photos?

Anytime between 9 months - 10 years old is the perfect time. Babies must be able to sit on their own unassisted.

Do you offer sibling portraits? Heirloom portraits focus on each individual child but as a mom of two I know how sweet the relationship with siblings can be. If you have scheduled back to back spots for your children and if time allows we can definitely snap a couple sibling pics but please note that individual photos of your child is my main focus.

What should my child wear? Don’t stress! I offer a complementary selection from my heirloom closet including a variety of hair bows! Parents have remarked at how fun it was to ‘shop’ the closet for the shoot. If you’d like to provide your own heirloom outfit I recommend light colors white, cream, pastel blues and pinks. Your child will be photographed from their chest up so if they want to sit with their favorite sweatpants and rain boots they totally can! The focus is on the collar so think ruffles, lace, smocking and rounded peter pan collars. Some online shop suggestions:

Feltman Brothers

Dondolo

Cecil & Lou

The Beaufort Bonnet Company

Strasburg Children

La Coqueta Kids

What is included in my session? Each sitting includes 10-15 minutes of time in front of my camera per child, complimentary heirloom wardrobe options including hair bows. Access to 4 hand edited hi-res digital images with classic vignetting in both color and B&W. Prints and framing and additional digital downloads are offered separately.

My child is sick, can we reschedule? Oy, I totally get it! You will be allowed to reschedule one time for a future date, clients are asked to contact me asap to reschedule.

Do you offer framing or prints? I feel very strongly that Heirloom portraits are so special and need to be off your hard drive and on your walls or shelves. I offer archival quality fine art prints and framing from only the most trusted professional printers which are offered at an additional cost. I would be happy to help you decide on how you would like to display your art in your home!

Do I need to bring/prepare anything? Please moisturize your child’s face/ around their nose before your session. Bring your child’s hairbrush or comb! A special lovey or a little snack is great too! Their heirloom outfit. Need help deciding what to dress them in? I’m always here to help!
